North Sea Oil and Duggy Dug

Look around Scotland and try to find something good that has so far come to its people thanks to North Sea Oil. Have you found anything? I can't think of a thing.

North Sea Oil is not the reason I am for YES. If this wonderful luck had actually been used to benefit the people of Scotland and the UK then I may be for NO. But it hasn't and I cannot see that this would change if Scotland remained a part of the UK. No UK party likely to get into power is offering anything substantially different to what has occurred since 1979. Conservative, Labour, Liberal DemocRATs are essentially the same with minor difference.

I also find it shocking that UK Government's and Unionist parties have for over 30 years comprehensively lied to the Scots about the value of this oil, and they continue to do so under the auspices of the Better Together campaign. Why anyone would continue to be involved in a country that did this is beyond me, no matter what their heart tells them.

I am not a member of any political party. I do however think this is the most important moment for the Scots since the Treaty or Act of Union (I have seen it referred to as both).

It will not be the end of the World if Scotland does not vote YES next year. Things will just continue getting worse for the people of the UK and Scotland.

The Scottish Government does what it can to mitigate the effects of London Unionist rule through free prescriptions, removing as many PFIs as possible, council tax freeze, and many other things. The SNP has proved it is far more competent than the previous Labour/ Liberal Democrat administrations in Edinburgh, and definitely more competent than any administration in Westminster for a long long time.

Given recent soundings though it seems perfectly possible that if Scots vote NO the devolution settlement may even be whittled away rather than being enhanced, meaning that the Scots would be subject to more incompetent rule from the south. However if that is what Scots want as that is what they are used to, then who can blame them.
